Entrepreneurship Empowerment

Going beyond traditional educational boundaries

The foundation provides seed capital to aspiring and existing entrepreneurs to assist with starting or sustaining their small business. Entrepreneur empowerment involves providing tools, resources, and knowledge to help business owners succeed, fostering innovation and economic growth. Key strategies include accessing funding, networking with peers, leveraging mentorship, and building resilience through training. It drives proactive, growth-oriented behavior.

The foundation organizes a workshop and professional or training seminar, in commemoration of Prof. Herbert Onye Orji, where attendees learn about a specific business area or subject allowing for in-depth discussion and interaction. The seminars are educational or professional meetings that foster deeper understanding, facilitate networking, and promote interactive learning towards business management. Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) contribute significantly to GDP (approx. 48% in Nigeria) and constitute many businesses (96% in Nigeria). SMEs are essential for industrialization, fostering entrepreneurship, and providing employment (accounting for 84% of jobs in Nigeria).

SMEs operate across various sectors, including agriculture, manufacturing, retail, and services. In Nigeria, manufacturing is heavily reliant on SMEs, with nearly 90% of the sector comprised of these enterprises. HOOF, in its own small way and specifically in the eastern region of Nigeria, aims to support young entrepreneurs in their craft and talent. The foundation hopes this will propel economic growth, poverty eradication, and employment creation.

The Prof. Herbert Onye Orji Foundation is dedicated to supporting individuals through our grant programs. We welcome applications directly from individuals seeking assistance in various areas. While we primarily issue grants to individuals, we also support regranting programs that have a positive impact on individuals.

Our grant application process is designed to be inclusive and accessible. If you are an individual looking for support, we encourage you to submit your application through our Grants form. The Foundation reviews applications on a rolling basis, and we strive to provide assistance to those in need.

Please note that we do not consider unsolicited proposals, and all grants are initiated through the Foundation’s invitation to specific individuals or organizations. If you have any questions or need guidance during the application process, our program staff is available to assist you.

We’d like to hear from individuals whose initiatives in Youth Empowerment actively catalyze positive change.
