Louis Nnamdi Mbanefo, SAN obtained a B.A (Hons) 1967, LLM 1968 from Queens College and Cambridge University in London, respectively. He was called to the English Bar (Middle Temple) in 1968.. Worked in London in Her Majesty’s Treasury. He was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1973. He is a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN). Was a partner in the law firm of Mbanefo & Mbanefo from 1974. From 1984, he became the Managing Partner of the firm of Louis Mbanefo & Co., Lagos. He is one of the foremost commercial lawyers in Nigeria and a globally recognized expert in Maritime and shipping law. He is a founding member of the Nigerian Maritime Law Association and currently a Patron of that Association. He was Chairman of the Nigerian National Shipping Line; a member of the Ministerial Committee that reviewed the Nigerian Shipping Laws. He was appointed a Visiting Professor for the preparation of the Modules for the proposed International Maritime Law Institute (IMLI) in Malta, 1988. Louis Mbanefo became a Visiting Fellow of the Institute since its inception in 1989.
Currently, outside law career, he is the Chairman of Board of Trustees of the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON); St. Saviours Schools ; Patron of the Sickle Cell Foundation of Nigeria among others.
